History

Arthur Aviles left Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in December, 1995. He fell in love with a man and flew to France. There he began to build his new company. He calls it Typical Theatre.

Not a businesss man himself, he thought he would look around for advice from some pros in the business. One close by friend said if you want to start a company and Dance is what you do, then Just Dance. He (Arthur) declared himself a one man dance company. Then he booked himself a gig at the Place de Terreaux every Monday at 4pm and presented 15 to 30 minute pieces in Celebration of the Body and Architecture and the Joy of Moving the body.

After performing in Creteil (outside of Paris), Miami and Puerto Rico in Group and Duet works, he went back to Lyon where he danced down the Rue de la Republique (from the Carousel to the Opera House) and in two playgrounds in the suburbs. (The children wondered and asked if it was Hip Hop.)

After completing his 14th performance, the company decided New York would be home.
