Other than tourists, I did not see any women riding camels, except for this picture from the Ajit Bhawan hotel....
I made sure to time my trip to Jaiselmer to coincide with it's Camel Festival.
This is about as decorated as a camel can get. Strictly for posing.
I had the best seat in the house to watch camel polo -- astride a camel of course -- but it was still a dreadfully boring affair. Camels like to WALK. And maybe trot nice and slow. Gallop? Naw, not today....
The best part of the camel festival (really the only good part) was the military "tattoo" show, complete with a camelback band (a feat much better appreciated after riding a camel yourself)!
These camels are galloping...well, galumphing might be a better word. They look so funny....
Camels HATE to lie down!
Here a soldier hides behind his galloping camel. These camels are used to patrol the border with Pakistan, though I doubt they use this manoever often.
