Rangoon and Temple

from a visit in January, 1999

The Myanmar government posts these billboards -- in English, mind you -- prominently around Myanmar.

Myanmar is full of these bell shaped temples, but most of the ones we saw were covered with bamboo matting, having their gold leaf restored. The gold turns black in a few years and needs to be redone.

I was ready to call this buddha gold, but our guide assured me it was brass.
